Parrots safety guide
Many owners assume that if a human can touch it, a parrot can safely interact with it, but parrots have much more sensitive respiratory and digestive systems. The biggest mistakes involve overlooking invisible fumes from non-stick cookware and assuming that natural-looking plants are always bird-safe.
π« Keep away from parrots
- Non-stick cookware β When overheated, Teflon coatings release fumes that are instantly fatal to birds due to their efficient respiratory systems.
- Essential oil diffusers β Concentrated aromatic vapors can cause severe respiratory distress and lung damage in parrots.
- Avocado β Contains persin, a fungicidal toxin that can cause heart failure and death in birds.
- Chocolate β Theobromine is highly toxic to birds and can lead to cardiac arrest and seizures.
- Onions and garlic β These alliums destroy red blood cells, leading to anemia and potential organ failure.
- Alcohol β Even small amounts can cause severe liver damage and neurological issues in parrots.
- Copper and zinc items β Chewing on these metals leads to heavy metal poisoning, which damages the liver and kidneys.
- Scented candles β The smoke and chemical fragrances can irritate the airways and cause respiratory infections.
